Laser Focus
The Last Samuri was this incredible Tom Cruise movie
That was scarcely recognized as a masterpiece
By anyone that I know of
But me.
I saw the Narrow Path all through it.
I saw the peaceful journey of these
Fiercely disciplined people
As an allegory to Christianity.
I cried through the whole thing
Even making notes to myself
So I would never forget the
impact it made on me.
The single most valuable quote in that movie was
"Too many mind".
As he was training in the Samuri ways,
Tom Cruise battled the western curse of
Being consumed with all the distractions around him.
He paid mind to the
people watching
His failures
The rain
His attire...
Too many mind.
I'm consumed with too many mind.
And by this token I am
Cloaked in failure.
I listened to a webinar right after Christmas
By a guy with no regrets.
He kept using this term
Laser focus.
He posed the question,
"What do you want in your life?
What is that thing you've been meaning to change?
You need to have a laser focus on it
everyday
and you will have it!"
I wrote it off as inapplicable to my life.
I want to change so many things
There's no way to focus on all of them.
So I ride the tide of my life
Hang on to my hat
And hope for the best.
Tonight in the quiet moments of the wee hours
I cried out to God for some peace.
I'm spent from paying mind to
So
Many
Things.
It's physically and mentally exhausting.
And I am starting to despise it.
I'm becoming cynical and hostile.
Too many mind.
As I prayed all these things started to fall away
And I was eveloped in the rest that comes
With true fellowship with God.
And He reminded me to
Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness.
Funny thing is
When I do that all these things are added back
Effortlessly
Without the necessity of diverting my attention.
So therein lies the path
For this impossible task
Of raising all these little people
And tending to all their needs
And being everything that they need me to be
And not letting my love affair with Dreamboat fall behind.
