Saturday marked one of the happiest surprises of my life. On the weekend before our 25th wedding anniversary, my people got together for a huge surprise celebration. I knew a few details about it, but I had no idea what all would be involved. 



Family and friends came from near and far to wish us well and congratulate us for staying together for all these years. It was a huge deal for me because I really wanted a wedding remake, but I didn’t have the physical or creative energy to make it happen. That’s what made this even more wonderful. Everyone worked hard to make it an incredible day for us, including a beautiful cake table and etched stemware to commemorate the day. 




All day long, all I could think about was how God remained faithful to keep us together through so many impossible things. Even when we had given up on each other, God never gave up on us. We made a covenant with Him, and He held up His end and both of ours too, during hard times. I am not so naive to think difficult times won’t come again, but I am confident that because God has joined us together, nothing can separate us.



About halfway through the party, I dragged out my wedding dress to put on for the cake cutting. It seemed corny, and when I told people I was going to put it on, they laughed. But it felt really special when I had a moment to thank the people that have carried us when it felt like we might not make it. The ones that cried with us and sat awkwardly in our suffering with no words. The ones that prayed for us and and shed tears for us that we never knew about, because they love us like that. And if you are one of these people and you didn’t make it to my house on Saturday, I want you to know that I’m grateful for you.



But even more than that, I want to thank God because He is the only reason we have safely arrived at 25 years together. 


“And He answered and said, “Have you not read that He who created them from the beginning MADE THEM MALE AND FEMALE, and said, ‘F OR THIS REASON A MAN SHALL LEAVE HIS FATHER AND MOTHER AND BE JOINED TO HIS WIFE, AND THE TWO SHALL BECOME ONE FLESH ’? So they are no longer two, but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate.””

guard dog

  This dog is a fierce opponent of mine. For over a year I have avoided the last leg of my two-mile walk because of his ferocious bark. I have a fear of dogs from childhood that is pretty irrational, but I am able to reason myself out of running scared, sometimes. Instead of walking to the end of his block, I would just retrace the distance over an area that was dog-free. It felt silly, but it kept me safe. Then one day there were two walkers ahead of me that managed to get to the end of the block with no sign of attack. I could hear the dog barking, but he didn’t approach, so I assumed there was an electric fence. Oh the joy I felt at this discovery! I began to shed my fear and walk freely to the end of the trail.  I was so happy about my newfound freedom that I decided to write about it. So one day, I stopped on the sidewalk in front of the dog’s house to take a photo of him. Before I knew it he was charging at me, barking viciously. He got closer and closer and I walked quickly down

Hi, have you met Dale? Than you know why this picture shocks me everytime I look at, it's like I'm seeing it for the first time. So I'm praying that I'll have at LEAST one writing project done by next spring. With the new home schooling goals, I don't know how practical that is, but without a forty hour commitment to working every week, starting in October, I'll have a little free tiME! WE GOT THE JOB!!! Dale interviewed today. We should have a reporting date in October. Thank you all, with all sincerity, for your prayers for us and the timing on this crazy thing. It has been worth the wait- for this. If we had not been forced to wait the past months, Dale would have gone into the interview totally unprepared, overweight and out of shape. But God...
