L. Dale Sutton, Jr. PhD, ThM

When he applied to the PhD program the first time, he was denied. Because he’s not one to take no for an answer, he completed a few more classes and reapplied. This time a panel of seasoned professors gave compelling reasons for him to walk away. “You have a large family and a full-time job. For most of our students, a PhD is their full-time job. We’re just not sure a person could manage everything on your plate and succeed.” He came back with a compelling response and was accepted into the program.

My dreamy husband works not one, but three jobs to support our large family. He spends nearly every evening after work, reading and writing. You might think that while managing all of that, he would leave us in his dust, but he doesn’t. He’s an attentive husband and an engaged father. I don’t know how he does it, honestly, except for the grace of God.

Over a month ago he submitted the first two chapters of his dissertation. Last week, he got word that he had successfully passed. This exciting news means that he will be awarded his second masters degree, a ThM, Masters of Theology. It’s not the end of the road, but it’s a huge landmark in his academic career.

I’m so proud of you, my love. You are the most amazing man I’ve ever known, and I’m so happy that you’re mine.
